Master Bath Update Plans!

Gambar
I’ve mentioned a few times along the way that one day I’d like to update my master bathroom .  Well, that day (and year) has finally arrived!  It was 4 years ago about this time that I started looking at houses and now I’ve been in my house for over 3 years, with lots of updates and renovations along the way.  My master bathroom did not get a complete overhaul, but I merely painted the vanity, got a new toilet, added some pretty touches and called it a day.  It’s been a useful little bathroom, but its little 70’s self could certainly could use an update, so I’ve decided to tackle that this spring. This update will not be done by my dad and I (I just can’t put him through a project of this scope), but I’m hiring the father and son team who built my front porch and added my windows for me last spring.  They do a really great job, are reasonable enough for labor, and I trust them.  So, they are going to help me gut my small 3 x 5′ bathroom and give it new life.  Right now, the bathroom ...

Today’s Bath Renovation, Part 2

Danny Lipford: This week is the second and final show on the renovation of Today’s Bath. Announcer: Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford , the voice of home improvement , with projects, tips and ideas to help you improve your home. Danny Lipford: We’re right in the middle of a two part renovation called Today ’s Bath, it involves the renovation and updating of two different bathrooms, one being a very small master bathroom that was in this area and then on the other side of the wall even a smaller bathroom that was kind of the guest bathroom and we’re making them a lot larger by encroaching into this area which was once the master bedroom . Now, by taking up this space we were able to create this very nice custom walk -in shower than a very long vanity, two different sinks, and this cozy little niche for the whirlpool tub. Also the existing guest bathroom ’s a lot larger, a lot more functional and we had enough space left over by encroaching into this bedroom to create a very nice...

Make an Old Bath Fresh and Fun

The apartment's location is just perfect. The layout is charming. Even the price is reasonable. This place is almost too good to be true, you think. And then, you see the bathroom. Tiles the color of pink baby aspirin . Or fixtures in a shade of green that just screams " mint chocolate chip ." Or perhaps a white one that has turned dingy and yellow with age? Call it "vintage." Call it "retro." Or, just be honest and call it OLD. Old Bathrooms, New Advice Your first instinct may be to rip out the outdated bath, right down to the studs, but that isn't always practical. For one thing, many rental buildings won 't allow it; for another, do you really want to spend $30,000 re-doing a bathroom you intend to use for just two years? Even if you own the home, that bathroom renovation may have to wait a while. There's the leaky roof that has to be fixed IMMEDIATELY, and the kitchen that has to be redone before you can scramble an egg or brew a ...

What Neurocardiogenic Syncope Really Feels Like

I get a sudden awareness that things aren’t as sharp as a moment before. The children who just argued in the next room, now sound muffled… are they outside? How did they get there in an instant? My peripheral vision slowly fades out. First in spots, then gone entirely as if there is nothing in the room aside from what’s right in front of me. My body struggles with an instant and intense exhaustion like I ran a marathon. Like I haven’t slept in weeks. Like I ran a marathon after not sleeping for weeks… The nausea crashes into me as an ocean wave crashes into the shore. My stomach is sick. My brain is sick. My body is sick. I fight a war against myself in this moment. Who needs the limited energy more? Sometimes my brain wins and my body loses. I lay down and go to sleep the minute my eyes shut. I will wake in an hour or two. Or three. But sometimes my brain loses… I feel a cold come over my skin. I start to panic as my words are lost. They are in my mind, but I am no longer able...

Here’s To My Fellow Bridesmaids At My Best Friend’s Wedding

Gambar
Twenty20 / laurfant24 When one of your best friends get engaged, it’s just the best. The most exciting. And when she lists off the names of “her people”, the girls she couldn’t imagine not having standing by her side on her special day, you notice a few names that you don’t know. Or don’t know well, at least. You show up to the engagement party or the first few showers and there they are, the 6-10 other girls who are equally as excited to watch their friend live out her dream of marrying her prince charming. And for one weekend, you spent an absurd amount of time bustling dresses and sipping on mimosas until you’ve convinced yourself that your shoes don’t hurt, and the only thing you’re left with is following each other on social media and hearing little bits and pieces about each other’s lives from our mutual friend. And you know, that’s just not enough. We went through a weekend-long affair together and it doesn’t feel right that it just ends with a hug after a sparkler brigade as ...

Bellagio’s Junior Suite Fails to Impress

Gambar
Iun Hockley shares his thoughts on the Bellagio’s Junior Suite Ah, The Bellagio, featured in so many movies; the iconic fountains; the palatial exterior; the famous gardens; the luxurious restaurants and the broad, sprawling casino where no-one seems to be winning very much at all. Every Vegas trip, I like to have a “treat” for myself – an overpriced meal in luxurious surroundings; a spa treatment with all the extra trimmings; front-row seats in the theatre; $20 bets on blackjack… As Mrs. Iun was joining me for this particular trip, our treat was a King Room in the Bellagio. Or so we thought. We had visited the Bellagio before and were charmed by the mushroom-like glass ceiling in the lobby, we loved the gardens (especially with the aquarium tunnel) and of course, we spent plenty of time filming the fountains. This time was different: as guests, we felt a certain thrill in that we were to be accommodated here among the Glitterati in such a famous setting. Our expectations were soon dr...
