How To: Small Bathroom Ideas

Gambar
We don’t all have the luxury of space in our bathroom. What most of us do have is an overflowing drawer of make-up, deodorants, razors, spare toothpaste and toilet roll, and those sample size amenities we take from hotels, with the thought that they’ll be useful for the gym or our next holiday (but yet we never remember pack them!) While clever storage can help hide your bits and pieces, it’s also useful to give the illusion of more room, especially if you have partners and your family taking up precious sink space . Here’s some basic tips to making that bathroom appear a little more spacious. The illusion of height Vertical lines can add height to a room by drawing the eye upwards. Try: Extending tiles to the ceilings to make the room seem larger. Painting a vertical stripe on the wall Using (bathroom friendly) wallpaper with a striped pattern Another way to draw the eye upwards is by lining the edge, or ‘crown’ of the ceiling with a border; perhaps a cornice, or a patterned tile aro...

Master Bath Update Plans!

Gambar
I’ve mentioned a few times along the way that one day I’d like to update my master bathroom .  Well, that day (and year) has finally arrived!  It was 4 years ago about this time that I started looking at houses and now I’ve been in my house for over 3 years, with lots of updates and renovations along the way.  My master bathroom did not get a complete overhaul, but I merely painted the vanity, got a new toilet, added some pretty touches and called it a day.  It’s been a useful little bathroom, but its little 70’s self could certainly could use an update, so I’ve decided to tackle that this spring. This update will not be done by my dad and I (I just can’t put him through a project of this scope), but I’m hiring the father and son team who built my front porch and added my windows for me last spring.  They do a really great job, are reasonable enough for labor, and I trust them.  So, they are going to help me gut my small 3 x 5′ bathroom and give it new life.  Right now, the bathroom ...

Thank you for supporting our partners! — I can’t tell you how nice it is have a shiny new place to take a shower in this house. For being built in the 1920s, the bones are great, but the plumbing… not so much! When we bought the house we had only one measly bathroom on the third floor and an, ahem, “open-air” throne in the basement next to the laundry.  Fast forward to our renovation last summer, and we now have a basement that acts as our family room, a powder room for guests on the main floor, and after some ...

Safe Bathroom Designs for Old People | Home Guides

Gambar
Older people need a bathroom that will suit their current and future needs. When designing a bathroom for an older person, safety and efficiency should be a primary consideration. As people age, mobility can become limited, and some seniors require the use of wheelchairs and walkers to move around. This requires that bathroom design incorporates maneuverable space , safety features such as grab bars, and organization that limits the need to move around the space when wet. Safety Considerations The bottom of an older person’s tub or shower and the floor of the bathroom should have a non-slip surface to prevent falls. Use non- slip bath mats for tubs and showers and use resilient or vinyl flooring instead of hard surface such as marble or ceramic tile for the main floor. Opt for fixtures, including vanities and counter tops, without sharp edges, so that the severity of injury is minimized in the event of a fall. Consider replacing towel rails with grab bars, which can serve both fun...

Three Bathroom Storage Ideas

Home › Bathroom › Three Bathroom Storage Ideas Add space and organization to your bathroom with a larger medicine cabinet, glass shelves, and built-in cabinets. Bathroom Storage Bathroom, before photo A typical bathroom , before being remodeled. Bathroom, after photo The same bathroom, after the remodel. Bathrooms never have enough storage or shelf space. Where do you display knickknacks , let alone store unsightly items like extra toilet paper , blow dryers, curling irons, and cans, soaps and bottles? Once you’ve filled up the vanity, how do you squeeze more storage into a small bathroom ? Three solutions: 1. Upsize existing storage space by replacing that tiny medicine cabinet or mirror with a larger, surface- mounted cabinet . 2. Utilize the space you have by adding glass shelving to the “dead” space over the toilet. 3. Steal space from an adjoining room or closet by insetting kitchen pantry cabinets (or tall utility cabinets ) into the wall. Installing a new medicine cabinet ...
