We wanted to try Princess having heard so many wonderful thing about their ships and in particular their onboard dinging and overall service. So a 2 night 'quickie' onboard Golden Princess - our first trip without the kids was a perfect opportunity to give them a try! Now I will put a couple of caveats on my review, being: a) we know a 2 night cruise is not long enough to get a full feel for the ship AND b) there were a lot of cruisers like ourselves doing the 2 nighter and thus a different 'vibe' to a longer cruise was experienced - again not necessarily the same experienced on a 'full' cruise where you have a chance to settle in and truly relax! So I think the above may in fact explain that whilst overall we really enjoyed our 2. 5 days aboard Golden Princess we felt that something was lacking that left us without the 'WOW" factor that we were truly expecting (hoping!) to experience. We drove from OKC to Houston the day before so that we wouldn't be rushed on the sail day. Stayed at the Fairfield Inn near the Houston airport. The price was reasonable and it was convenient and close to restaurants and easy access to the highway the next morning for the drive to Galveston. Only took about 35 minutes. The traffic getting to the cruise terminal on Sunday AM was SLOW going to get into the terminal area. I would recommend driving past the terminal and coming in from the east direction, rather than from the West and having to wait forever to turn into the terminal drives. Once we did get on the property, there were porters very available to assist in getting the luggage from the car and onto a cart for us. He showed us where the check in was and took care of getting all our luggage inside and checked in for us, which was a great help. He was friendly and affable and well worth the tip he earned.
