Bathroom Update
It's been ages since I last updated, I can only apologise! Lots has been happening around the house that bloggers built so I finally got some spare time to sit down and write a post about my brand spanking new bathroom and the ups and downs along the way...
Our journey started with two rather hideous bathrooms that for some unknown reason, we're originally one. The old owner decided to put up a stud wall across a window and the their choice of tiles were, well.... yes.
One of the showers only worked if the other was one and the one that did work was leaking so it was one of those things that had to be done. After some deliberation we decided to knock the bathrooms back into one large family one with a bath (huzzar!)
We decided on black floor tiles with half tiled walls and a full tiled walk in shower, which I'm actually really please with. I think it's a nice neutral bathroom that we can jazz up with some colourful accessories and towels but also looks clean and sleek. We also decided we wanted a stand alone bath, his and her sinks and a towel rail.
It all started with the stud wall finally being knocked down, all the old units, showers, sinks and toilets being ripped out and those awful tiles making their final exit!
Once all the rubbish was gone we could finally see just what secrets lurked under those hideous brown and cream tiles, thankfully it wasn't as bad as we thought! Now the stud wall is gone the light in the room is incredible, who knows why they though putting a wall across a window would be a good idea..
Next came the new plastering, gorgeous flat walls and ceilings that would be the basis for the bathroom we'd be dreaming of. So far so good! The new lights and ceiling fans were installed and the freshly plaster was painted.
Next came the tiling and the start of the bad news too. Nothing in this house seems to be a smooth journey, so we were kinda expecting to uncover some sort of horror along the way!
Once the tiles were up, the shower was finally installed and it wasn't long until our gorgeous black floor made an appearance along with the free standing bath we'd be craving for so long!
We agreed on a tall tap that stands on the outside of the bath with a shower head attachment. Unfortunately this little bugger decided to leak and when I say leak I mean it leaked so much over a few days that it actually came through the hallway ceiling. So cue the builder having to remove the tap and try and get a replacement. Unfortunately the place he ordered the tap from didn't carry any in stock so we had to order it along with a new pump to improve the water pressure. Now I'd love to say we're over that issue but sadly even though we have the new non leaking tap and pump, the pressure is still appalling and the pump is going to have to be moved.
While we've been waiting for the tap our builder cracked on with the rest of the bathroom, installing the his & her sinks, toilet and finishing the floor. We then discovered another issue with our towel rail, you guessed it! It leaked! Thankfully this time it was just a few nuts and bolts that needed tightening but it was another one of those 'Oh No!' moments.
So after almost three and a half weeks, we do have a bathroom however it's still full of issues!
The pump on the bath still needs to be moved, the taps on the his and her sinks only get hot water if you turn both of them on and the shower keeps making a weird noise. We've also noticed some of the tiles are chipped and scratched and as they were all brought brand new, we obviously aren't happy and want them replacing.
It's been one of those experiences that I can't wait to be over, so keep your eyes peeled as I'll do a proper bathroom post when it's done! Hopefully it'll be rather soon as I'm desperate to go spend my life savings in Lush on bath bombs....
Do you have any building horror stories?
Until next time,
