Make Rainbow Homemade Bath Salts | By Brittany Goldwyn

Gambar
Share This Post: I love bath salts . The only thing I dislike about our current apartment is the fact that we have a small bath tub –but that doesn’t stop me from using it. I usually mow through bath salts, so I started making my own after realizing how much cheaper (and more rewarding) it was to make my own. I also like to use a mixture of half Epsom and half sea salt, and most store-bought salts I’ve found are either 100% Epsom or 100% sea salt. I usually make colorless bath salts for my own personal use, but I like to add color to them when I’m giving them as a gift because it makes them look more presentable. These rainbow homemade bath salts make a fun craft for a great gift, and you can make them in about an hour following the steps below. What you’ll need: I had the baking soda, measuring cups, baggies, mason jar, and food coloring, but I was due for some more Epsom salt and sea salt. I picked up both at my local grocery store . A 4-pound bag of Epsom salt was 4.79 (save a tri...

What are the Benefits of Bath Salts? (with pictures)

anon990316 Post 12 I tried my first salt bath with essential oils this morning as supplement to medicated ringworm treatment . Wow was it ever relaxing and enjoyable. My skin was tingling, in a nice soothing way. I've been missing out! anon924895 Post 11 First off, bath salts aren 't just salt. Second, they are a little bit of a salt in a lot of water. That isn't what the mummies were soaked in. Maybe it's the stuff in the bath salts that isn't salt, but after every salt bath my skin is smooth and soft, not dry. Give it a try before you call it a myth, and don't just throw some table salt in a bath tub. Use real bath salts . anon291226 Post 10 Salt is not good for your skin? You, friend, have never soaked in sea salt. You should resist the temptation to discuss things you have no understanding of. tonypham Post 9 Myth after myth. Salt can't soften your skin. If anything it dehydrates your skin (ask the pharaoh's mummies!) anon150335 Post 8 I just bought ...

How to Reduce Chemicals in Bath Water

Gambar
Regular tap water can be a source of many chemicals from chlorine to fluoride and many others. At our house, we have a water filter for our drinking water and we also use filters on shower heads. Since most of our kids are not old enough to take showers yet, I also wanted to find a good option for bath water. I’m yet to find a filter adapter for a bath tub, but I’ve told my dad (an engineer) that he needs to work on one of these! In the meantime, I wanted to find ways to reduce the chemicals my children were exposed during bath time. My son had allergies and skin troubles since he was a baby (though we’ve almost completely eliminated them now) so this was especially important for him. Chemicals in Bath Water? In the 1990s, the Environmental Protection Agency acknowledged that a person can absorb more chlorine and other contaminants from bath and shower water than even from drinking water polluted with the same substances. Unfortunately, this puts children most at risk, as some child...

10 Survival Uses For Epsom Salt

Gambar
I think that as preppers and homesteaders, we can all agree that three of the top things we look for in an item that we consider worthy of stockpiling is cost, versatility and utilitarianism. In other words, how many different things can we use it for, and how often will  we reach for it? Well, using those criteria, Epsom salt goes somewhere near the top of the preparedness list, along with vinegar and duct tape. But why? Epsom salt, sea salt, table salt, kosher salt … they’re all the same, right? Just different textures? Nope. Actually, it’s not a salt at all. Sea salt, kosher salt and table salt are at least 97.5% sodium chloride. Of course, kosher salt is, well, kosher, and sea salt also has minerals, but Epsom salt is a completely different beast – it’s actually magnesium sulfate. And it has a ton of survival and household uses. Another big difference between Epsom salt and other salts is that it doesn’t really have culinary value – it’s bitter. It’s used more as  a chemical than a...

Gambar
This guest post is from our friend Brittany of By Brittany Goldwyn. Check out more of her style and design tips on her blog.  I’m excited to share five easy upgrades to create a small bathroom oasis . Don't think you have to completely renovate your existing bathroom to implement some of these tips - no matter what state your bathroom is in, these projects will help polish your space and make it feel more relaxing. 1. BUILD A BATHTUB TRAY When we decided to put in a freestanding tub, I knew I wanted some sort of bathtub tray. You can buy a fancy bathtub tray , or you can make a really simple one. I shared a tutorial last week for the one I made to fit our new tub. 2. SWAP EXISTING CABINET HARDWARE In order to save money, I decided to keep the existing vanity and vanity top, but wanted to give each a little upgrade too. By simply swapping out the builder- grade chrome knobs for $20 worth of brushed nickel pulls , we were able to transform the entire piece's aesthetic. The ch...

6 Uses Of Epsom Salt

Gambar
Hey Girls, My mom loves using Epsom salt for many things – most notably to get rid of unwanted body odors and doing laundry. Epsom salt is packed with many health benefits and it’s uses go far beyond bath salts. Here goes! At Home Pedicures After a hard week, I’m sure all you want to do is just pamper yourselves. A Pedicure would be the perfect way and there’s no need for you to leave your comfy abode for the nail parlor, just get some Epsom salt, warm water and a bucket. Add 1/2 cup of Epsom salt and warm water into a bucket, soak your feet for 5 minutes and it’ll soften your skin. When that’s done, remove your nail polish, push back the cuticles, cut and file your toenails before you add some color on them. If you’re trying to achieve super soft feet , soak your feet for an additional 5 minutes and enjoy soft and smooth feet after. This method also helps to get rid of foot odors. Volumize Hair Without Dry Shampoo If you’ve ran out of dry shampoo or couldn’t be bothered to step out a...
