‘Jacuzzi’ is the same as ‘hot tub’ or ‘whirlpool bath’ with new Azure Search synonyms support

One of the most requested features for Azure Search – synonyms support – is now available in public preview. Synonyms functionality allows Azure Search to not only return results that match the query terms typed into the search box but also those that match synonyms of those terms. And since terminology and definitions vary, Azure Search’s Synonyms API allows customers to define their own synonym mappings.

The Azure Search team engineered a solution that supports multi-word synonyms as well. So, for example, in a real-estate website a user who searches for “large jacuzzi” will also get results that include the terms “large hot tub” or “large whirlpool bath.”

Advocates for victims of human trafficking are urging Central Oregon businesses to post information about how to escape in their bathroom stalls before the total solar eclipse later this month. The eclipse, which is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of people to Central Oregon , could result in more cases of people being bought or sold for sex, said Nita Belles, executive director of the anti- trafficking organization In Our Backyard. “We know with the increase in population and the party atmosphere surrounding the eclipse, there will be an increase in human trafficking,” Belles said. Her organization produces “ Freedom Stickers ,” which contain instructions for how to contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline and say, in both English and Spanish, “People are not property.
