Amazing food, lovely staff - but..... - Review of Merchants Manor, Falmouth

The four of us went to Merchants Manor for a Sunday night bed, breakfast and evening meal deal. It was fantastic value £80 per couple. I had some misgiving as I could not believe it could be so cheap and be of a good quality. But it was fantastic. We had lovely double rooms in the newer part of the hotel. Nicely appointed bedroom and en-suite bathroom, warm (it was January), massive double bed with crisp white sheets. I visited the gym which was well equipped and the men visited the pool and sauna (all of this was included in the price). So, I though maybe the food would be the let down - but no.....It was a three course set menu for the evening meal and there were at least three choices for each course. I had the mackerel fillet to start, followed by the pan fried Hake (mains came with a selection of nicely cooked veg and crispy roast potatoes) and finished with cheese and biscuits. All the food was freshly cooked and delicious. All four of us cleared our plates. The wine was reasonably priced (not included in the deal). So on to breakfast. Again it was really good. A buffet including all the usual favourites - cereals, croissants, fruit, juices, cheese, hams etc. etc. Plus your choice from the cooked selection. We had two full English breakfasts, one pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and one boiled eggs and soldiers (always difficult to get right but they did). There was nothing I could fault for the whole stay. The staff were all wonderfully helpful and smiling. I still can't believe what a good deal this is. At that price we'll certainly be back.
